Parking Concerns in the community

Dear Resident,

I wanted to update you how the beat team is tackling the local concerns around parking. Below is a brief summary of enforcement action and partnership working. 

Residents reported that visitors attending events at the DMU football club were parking inconsiderately on surrounding residential streets, particularly Maplewell Drive and Pinewood Close. These vehicles were causing footpath obstructions, reducing visibility for motorists, and in some cases completely blocking the road. Concerns were raised about safety, accessibility, and ongoing disruption on matchdays. 

PCSO Kurtis and Telat attended a multi‑agency meeting with local councillors, residents, council departments, the football club chairman, and representatives from De Montfort University to understand the concerns in full and explore how we could best support the community and reduce tensions. 
Following this, we held a beat meeting and began creating an advisory poster for DMU to display around the ground, informing visitors about considerate parking and the potential enforcement action for causing obstruction.
 

Today, PCSO Kay and I were able to dedicate time to support DMU and the council with targeted enforcement. We dealt with several obstructions where police powers applied and issued three Wilful Obstruction Fixed Penalty Notices to vehicles blocking footpaths. We also thank DMU for swiftly printing and displaying the signage we designed, helping reinforce the message to visitors.

What We’re Doing Next
We will continue working closely with DMU and Civil Enforcement Officers to monitor the area on matchdays and take robust action against vehicles causing obstruction. Our aim is to reduce disruption for residents, improve safety, and ensure that persistent offenders are dealt with appropriately. We will also continue reviewing and refining the signage and communications to support long‑term improvements.
